Decks and fencing for new and rural lots
Ferndale is growing, with new construction going up and plenty of acreage around the edges, so the jobs here run from finishing out a brand-new yard to fencing a few rural acres. Fresh decks off new homes, full-property fencing on bigger lots, and gates wide enough for a driveway or a piece of equipment to pass through. It's a mix of suburban new-build work and rural acreage fencing, and we do both.
On new builds, we put in fresh decks with below-frost footings, a flashed ledger, and a composite or cedar surface, and we run full perimeter fencing with posts set in concrete and gravel drainage. On acreage, longer fence lines and wider gates sized for driveways and equipment, set to stay plumb in the wet soil. Ferndale falls under City of Ferndale or Whatcom County permitting depending on where you sit, and we pull the right permit and handle the inspection either way.
What we build in Ferndale.
Common projects
Fresh decks on new construction, full-property and perimeter fencing, wide driveway and equipment gates, and longer rural fence lines.
Permits and inspection
Decks over 30 inches off the ground or attached to the house need a City of Ferndale or Whatcom County building permit and inspection. We pull the permit, handle the drawings, and meet the inspector.
Climate considerations
Ferndale's wet soil is hard on fence posts and footings whether the lot is a new subdivision or rural acreage. We set posts in drained concrete and footings below frost depth.
