Aging decks and fences, set right again
The neighborhood around Cornwall Park is full of established homes, Tudors and others, that have been here long enough for the original deck and fence to wear out. Decks that felt solid for years go soft underfoot once the framing starts to rot, and fence runs that have leaned a little more each winter finally give up. Both are common calls for us here, and both come down to the same question: repair what's sound, or replace what's gone.
We give you the honest answer. On a deck, we probe the ledger, posts, and footings and tell you whether it's a board-level repair or a real rebuild. On a fence, we tell you whether we can reset the leaning posts and swap a few sections, or whether the run is past its life. When it's a rebuild or replacement, we do it to last: below-frost footings and a flashed ledger on decks, posts set in drained concrete on fences. No selling you the big job when the small one will do.
What we build in Cornwall Park.
Common projects
Deck rebuilds on decks that have gone soft, fence repair and full replacement of rotted runs, cedar and composite decks, and code railing upgrades.
Permits and inspection
Decks over 30 inches off the ground or attached to the house need a City of Bellingham building permit and inspection. We pull the permit, handle the drawings, and meet the inspector.
Climate considerations
Years of around 35 inches of rain a year rot framing and lean fence posts on established homes. We rebuild with drained footings, flashing, and drained post setting.
