Decks and long fence runs for larger lots
Edgemoor's properties run larger than most of Bellingham, and the homes here tend to want a finish to match: clear cedar decking with a tight grain, or a high-grade composite that looks clean and needs no upkeep. The bigger lots also mean longer fence runs, often mature cedar privacy that's reached the end of its life and needs replacing in a way that keeps the established look.
We build to that standard. For decks, that's clear western red cedar or a premium composite installed with hidden fasteners, on a structure with below-frost footings and a flashed ledger. For fencing, long cedar privacy runs with posts set in concrete and gravel drainage so a 200-foot run stays plumb across the whole property. Edgemoor sits near the water, so corrosion-resistant fasteners and drainage matter as much here as the look does.

Permits and inspection
Decks over 30 inches off the ground or attached to the house need a City of Bellingham building permit and inspection. We pull the permit, handle the drawings, and meet the inspector.
Climate considerations
Waterfront-adjacent damp and salt air are hard on long fence runs and deck fasteners. We use corrosion-resistant hardware and drained post setting so long runs hold up.
