Decks and fences across town.
Bellingham runs from the flat in-town blocks near downtown up to the steep hillside lots looking over the bay, and the deck or fence that fits depends a lot on where you sit. Older homes near Cornwall and the central neighborhoods often have tired pressure-treated decks from the 80s and 90s that have gone soft, while the newer builds up the hill want ground-up decks sized for the view. We work all of it, citywide.
What stays the same everywhere here is the wet. We get around 35 inches of rain a year, so the enemy is rot, not sun. We build decks with footings below frost depth, a flashed and bolted ledger where the deck meets the house, and ground-contact-rated lumber. On fences, we set posts in concrete with gravel drainage so they don't lean after the first soggy winter. Any deck over 30 inches off the ground or attached to the house needs a City of Bellingham permit and inspection, and we handle that whole process.
What we build in Bellingham.
Common projects
New deck construction, deck rebuilds on older in-town homes, composite and cedar decking, cedar privacy fence, and code railing upgrades.
Permits and inspection
Decks over 30 inches off the ground or attached to the house need a City of Bellingham building permit and inspection. We pull the permit, handle the drawings, and meet the inspector.
Climate considerations
Around 35 inches of rain a year means rot is the enemy. Below-frost footings, flashed ledgers, ground-contact-rated lumber, and drained fence posts are standard on every job.
